What is #toptuesday?

Every Tuesday, our members share the places they love with the community. We then consolidate this data to create a ranking of the top places in each city, this is #toptuesday.

Why is it on Tuesday?

Most people tend to discover new places on the week-end but are often too hungover on Sunday to come on our website and share these places with the community. We give our users until Monday to pick the places they love and therefore we publish the top on Tuesday.

What about privacy?

On Scoville you never share your location with anyone. We let you link your Foursquare account to make it easier to pick places you've been but Scoville is about sharing places you loved, not your location.

How can I like a place?

There are 2 ways to like a place on Scoville:

  • You can log in to our website and pick places you love from your latest Foursquare check ins.

  • You can like a place straight from Foursquare by using the hashtag #toptuesday in the check in message or in a tip.

What's a Likebox?

Likeboxes give context to your check-ins by allowing you to group your favorite places under a specific theme such as "Best Sushi Restaurants" or "Best Art Museums". We combine all these Likeboxes to create a "Best Of the Box" to help you discover great places.

What does it mean that my city is a "village" or a "town"?

Each city gets a level based on the number of places Liked within that city, or the number of Likeboxes created. Each level brings new features to users within that city. Today, most cities became "villages" which gives users the ability to create Likeboxes.

Why is there a cow on your homepage?

We'd be grateful to our users if they could stop calling her the "Scoville cow". Her name is Isabella and she's been with us since we started Scoville's beta. She's there to remind us that best places are just under your nose.

What does Scoville means?

Scoville comes from the Scoville scale (see wikipedia) which is a measurement of the spicy heat (or piquance) of a chili pepper. We initially gave that name to an internal project as we were building location-based recommendation engine. We named it that way as the goal was to define how hot a place would be for a given person. Now an entire platform is built around that engine and we named our service after it.
